About grants and funding
The Queensland Government provides grants and funding for Threatened species research, recovery actions and the South East Queensland Wildlife Hospital Network.
Threatened Species Recovery Action Grants fund on-ground management activities that help protect and recover threatened fauna and flora species.
Threatened Species Research Grants fund projects to improve understanding of Queensland’s threatened flora and fauna species and improve their conservation and recovery.
Community Sustainability Action grants provide funding for locally based, community driven projects that will conserve our natural environment and protect our unique wildlife.
The Queensland and Australian governments also jointly support a range of organisations to undertake threatened species research and recovery actions. These include:
- grants to protect marine turtles, their clutches and hatchlings through the Nest to Ocean Turtle Protection Program
- grants to mitigate impacts on species from floods and to restore and reconnect habitats through the Biodiversity Conservation Program (Flood Recovery).
Since 2017, the Queensland Government has committed over $13.5 million to support the SEQ Wildlife Hospital Network to provide vital assistance to koalas and other wildlife species in the region. We also fund wildlife carers to rescue and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned koalas.
The Network includes:
- Currumbin Wildlife Hospital
- RSPCA Wildlife Hospital
- Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital
- Moggill Koala Rehabilitation Centre
